When starting a website there are several basic things that all website owners must do. This article will cover all the very basic steps, with some helpful tips to guide you on your way. According to what we have learned from our experience in building a website and our research on the popular Internet forums here are the basic directions: The first step is to get yourself a domain name. A domain name serves as the address of your site, registers you on the Internet, marks your territory on the Internet and eventually sets up your site. Domain names are purchased. They can have different suffixes that pertain to what your site is about(.com, .info, .biz, etc.). You can purchase a name of your choice if it is not already in use by someone else, or you can also get your domain name from your webhost provider. Some of the web packages include a free domain name when you buy their service so be sure to check into that. The next step is to get a host, which is to allot you the online space you need for your site. Websites become available online once they are supported by a host, so you must get yourself a reliable hosting package to ensure regular uptime and availability across the Internet. To create a website you will need a program and/or software package so you can upload and publish your content on your site. You can do this by manually installing the program by means of FTP, or by automatic script installers. After you have installed the program you will use to make your website you can start designing your web pages. By using different templates and widgets it will make your website more appealing and professional. Finally, after you have the layout and design finished, it is very important that you generate content. You need to add articles, images and multimedia to your site so that your audience will know what your website has to offer them. Your site is now complete and ready for business.
